Flawless skin 💁

Have you ever thought, "I've got blackheads!" or "I want to get rid of my pimples?" Ever wondered why that girl has got such flawless skin, and you don't? Don't envy her. You can have flawless skin as well if you follow these steps.

1.) Determine your skin type. Is it oily, dry, normal, or combination of either? In order to do this, wash your face, let it dry and leave your face completely untouched for an hour. Inspect by dabbing a tissue between your nose and cheek, called the T-zone.

-Normal skin shows neither oil nor flaking skin. It should feel supple and smooth. If you have it, consider yourself lucky!

-Oily skin is characterized by the grease on the tissue. It is also common for a person with oily skin to have large pores and a bit of a shine.

-Dry skin may feel taut or show flakes of dead skin. It is associated with small pores. Moisturizing is important for this skin type.

-Combination skin is most common. It exhibits traits of all three of the above skin types. Usually, the skin is oily in the T-zone and normal to dry elsewhere.

2.) Invest in a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and facial scrub suited to your skin type. You might have to test out a couple of brands before you find the perfect one. Talk to an associate at a make up or skin care counter. You will be able to test different formulas. They may even offer samples so you can try a product out for a day or two.

3.) Buy an SPF 15+ sunscreen for daily use. Try for a facial sunscreen with no fragrance or oil. Many moisturizers these days have sunscreen built into them. Experiment with different moisturizers to see if the sunscreen works well and the moisturizer keeps your face hydrated.

4.) Use your face wash every day. You will not see a difference if you only use it once a week. Use your scrub, which lifts off dead layers of skin, only every few days as to avoid scrubbing off too much skin.Do not use a washcloth, loofah or any other abrasive material to wash your face. Washing with your hands is perfectly acceptable, and will lower the irritation you might otherwise get with an abrasive material.Wash once in the morning and once at night. This is especially important if you have very oily skin, or numerous pimples. Moisturize after every wash. Washing your face with a facial cleanser sucks all the natural oils from your face. Clear, beautiful skin is hydrated skin.

5.) Wash off your makeup. Before going to bed remember to take off any makeup you put on. Washing your face may do the trick, but some makeup may require makeup remover. Don't be lazy about taking off makeup. If you're prone to leaving your makeup on or forgetting to wash your face, invest in some wipes and keep them close to your bed. That way, all you need to do is swipe your face when you're dead tired.

6.) Sleep. Make sure you get your 8 hours every night, perhaps a bit more if you are a teenager. Being well rested gives your body more energy to go about its daily routine, and leaves you feeling even better.

Clear skin is beautiful skin!

Color? No color? Jazz is confused...

Natural hair. Hair dye. Not natural? The question of all questions sitting on a curly girls mind. Many may say if you color your hair you are no longer considered natural. But others may say as long as you do not perm/relax your hair you are natural, color or no hair color. I am a new natural (big chopped in June 2014) so you can guess the struggle I am having trying to figure out what to do (I REALLY REALLY REALLLLLLY WANT TO COLOR MY HAIR) I believe having hair color doesn't strip you of your natural hair because I consider being natural as just having no perm in your hair.  I'd like to know who's right and who's wrong... Or is it all just based on your personal definition of "natural?" Comment down below or tell me on twitter @WrittenByJazz

    Darianna's Closet ☺️

My closet is more than a four walled space that I just hang my clothes in or stack my shoes against. It's my sanctuary! It's the key to starting off a great day, because if you're looking good you're going to feel even better. Anyone that knows me can vouch that my style has multiple personalities. I like to change things up and be different. My closet ranges from chic, boho, sporty, etc. BUT (emphasis on that) there are absolutely 5 things I just cannot love without.

    1.) The Blazer

Blazers are everything! There should be at least one blazer in every girls closet. They provide so much versatility within different outfits. It's so easy for me to accessorize the things I wear with a blazer. My love for them is ridiculous! They give you a sense of power without the masculinity.

    2.) The boyfriend jean

The boyfriend Jean gives me so much life!! Although they are very casual and can be so easy to just throw on a T-shirt and sneakers with them I tend to spice things up a bit. My latest outfit (picture below) with the boyfriend Jean was casual chic. I added an Aztec crop top, a black heel and plum lipstick to the mix. Making it more appealing to the eye and a lot more feminine.

    3.) My bags

Purses, purses and more purses. So many of these beautiful creations consume my closet. All the way from Coach, Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo to Louis Vuitton I love them all. Some may even call me crazy for the amount of money I invest in my bags. They hold my life! A great bag will never steer you wrong honey! Yasss!

    4.) Scarfs

My collection of scarfs tend to grow more and more each day! I have an issue with accessorizing. Not that I don't know how I just don't like to. It becomes overbearing for me. It serves to much as a hassle for me. So, what I've started to do is accessorize with different clothing items instead of jewelry. Scarfs just so happen to be my favorite! Especially with jeans and a simple T-shirt. The different designs, shapes, colors and ways to wear it all have such a big effect on me. I love it!

    5.) Sweatpants

After being dolled up for days at a time I really enjoy just throwing on a pair of sweatpants and a baggy shirt. It's so comfortable and convenient. Especially throughout the school year! Instead of spending hours trying to figure out what I'm going to wear and how to look I just throw on sweatpants, some sneakers and a shirt. I've even renamed it to Bummy Chic! Lol Even though it isn't a blazer or some stilettos does not mean I don't look good in it.

"What's in your closet?!" by Ashley Marie

Now, when it comes to me I am a fashion freak! I can't leave the house without buying something to add to my clothing repertoire. I have racks on racks on racks of clothes. Recently, my pole and shelf in my closet collapsed from how many clothes I had. I was devastated. (Moment of silence for the tragedy). But even though I have all of these clothes, I still have my top 5 go to pieces that I cannot live without.

    The Blazer.

Now even though I have different colors and styles of blazers in my closet, I always can count on the classic and sophisticated look of my black blazer. It goes with everything and is thick enough to keep me warm on a chilly night. I paid the discounted price in Old Navy of $20 from $60. LOVE!

    The Cardigan.

I loooove a cardigan! I can wear it all day everyday. They give me peace and comfort throughout my day. I have so many different styles that I can wear a cardigan of my choice year round. Now being that my cardigan collection is so large, I cannot just pinpoint one. So I hope I can slide with a 2 for 1. The first is my black boyfriend cardigan from Old Navy. It's long and loose and also has pockets which is an added bonus. It's like my everyday go to. I paid the discounted price of $15 from $30. The second is a black cardigan adorned with gray stars from Forever 21. I love it. I literally find a way to work it into my outfit. I paid $12 for it.

    The Bag.

Now this is another 2 for 1 deal. (Am I cheating or nah...?) The first is my small over the shoulder Michael Kors bag. I love and it keeps it simple for me when I don't want the hassle of a big bag. I paid $50 at Marshall's compared to its original price of $130. Talk about savings! The second is my black Betsey Johnson purse. If anybody knows me, they know I love me some Betsey. This bag holds my life. I paid $60 at Marshall's from its original price of $140. Again, those savings.

    The Windbreaker.

WINDBREAKER! Everyone had them when they were a kid. Those things were amazing. But they were really popular in the 80s and 90s. While strolling around in a thrift store up north on Belmont, I discovered the Holy Grail of windbreakers. They have so many and I just wanted to buy them all. (Which I plan on doing when I go back.) But there was one that spoke to me. My black and leopard windbreaker is everything! Leopard is my favorite color (besides pink), and this is a must have for me. A good fall or spring find. I paid $15.

    The Jeans.

Let me tell you, ball is not life, jeans are! My black skinnies to be exact. I love a black skinny jean. I have about maybe 6 pairs of skinnies, all the same brand and style. The Rockstar skinny from Old Navy. They give me life. I always pay the sale price $20 from $34.

    Closet By Jazz

I have five things in my closet that are my absolute favorite. From the most simplest of things to the hottest. I'm a proud sale rack shopper and a VERY proud thrifter. What are your top five favorites? Below are mine:

My good old faithful... My white blazer. Now, I could never in my right mind spend $50 on a blazer, so guess what I did... Yes, that's right ladies! I went strolling into my local Chicago Good Will where I found this beautiful Ann Taylor blazer tucked away between Jeans and a swim suit. I had absolutely hit the jackpot. It was only $17.99 (tag price,) but for Jazz??? It was a stunning $16.00 because I'm a Good Will card holder. *praise break*

This was my very FIRST crop top. With the inspiration of crop top goddess and fashion blogger @NaturallyFashionable (on Instagram) I decided to go into H&M and hunt one down. With the sale gods following me, H&M were having a major sale on their crops and bags. The tag price was $29.95, but the price I paid... $9.95. I've never seen a sale like it.
*Lets take a second to thank the nice people at H&M for this sale* This is one of the few shirts I have that has kept it's shape through every wash. #GoodQuality

I got this amazing bag at the same H&M at the same sale. I find it very hard for me to find a bag that I love and for a decent price, but I knew immediately it was love when I saw it... This bag was on sale for about $17-$18 dollars. Now, the quality isn't to die for, but for $18 what can you expect? I've had this bag for about 3 months, and it shows every bit of me wearing it almost everyday. I used it as a school bag the last few weeks of school as well, so I guess it holding up through that was a good thing.

I LOVE the clean, cool look of a converse, but I do not agree with the Chuck Taylor price. This is where my local beauty supply comes in handy... I don't know about your local beauty supply store, but here in Chicago they all sell just about anything. I go to one of the two beauty supply stores down from my home and I can find either a white and (or) a black converse for at least
$8-$10 dollars. One pair of these converse will last me the whole school year, that's outstanding quality being that I walk a lot and I wear them everyday except Sunday's when I switch them out for my Sunday school heels, HA!

If you follow me on Instagram (@jazz_inspired) you'd know that I love myself a simple black tank top. I always get mine from Forever21+. They're normally around $2.00. I always wear them for workouts, under my clothes or just to lounge around the house. These tops are love.

Follow me on my social accounts and tell me your top five closet gems.

    Mixed Chicks...?

Okay my beautiful brown of all shades, I'm here to talk about the struggle of a mixed chick. Everyone thinks we have it easy, when in reality it's just as hard, if not harder to navigate the beauty world. If you're not convinced, hear me out.

For one, finding the perfect foundation is horrendous. I myself have to mix two different shades together to get my own. I know of other girls who have to do the same. While the makeup industry has just started to embrace women of color, they forgot about the in between. Hi! We're right here! But I've already written an article about that.

Now for the mother of all problems, what to do with our hair?! My blog mate has already covered natural hair techniques. While I've tried all of those products, I find it hard for them to work for my unique hair texture. Hair is weird already, having a life of its own and whatnot. Then it has to go and be complicated with mixing different hair textures.

A lot of people think we can just wash and go, being that we have what you may call "good hair". But that is most definitely NOT the case. Wash-n-go is far from what I go through with my curly mane. Yes, I called it MANE. Not to sound whiny, but it's hard finding a "natural hair" product for women of mixed culture.

Now, I'm all for a nice straightening. But I can only straighten my hair when it's in the winter or fall. Stale face. In the spring and summer my straight hair struggles to stay straight on a daily basis. One bit of humidity and it's a big poof ball. One drop of rain and it curls up. I hate it. But, summer gives me a chance to rock my natural curls that I've been hiding all winter.

Now when it comes to rocking natural hair for us mixed girls, we almost have to wash our hair every single day to grasp that moisture. That's what I was doing at first until I found out I was stripping my hair of its nutrients. That's when I was using  Fructis by Garnier. I literally had to wash or wet my hair everyday and put in leave in conditioner to rejuvenate my curls. But my curl pattern was wrong. Not to mention the clumps of hair that'd be in the comb after untangling.

So then I switched to a product I thought would work for me. Mixed Chicks. It was the rave amongst the mixed community and I felt I had to have it. So after searching high and low for this brand, I found it at Target where it was very expensive compared to other brands. After spending an arm and a leg, I went home hoping that it worked. After using it, it helped with locking in moisture which was a plus. Meaning I could go several days without wetting my hair and it'd still look lively and not dry. But my hair would still shrivel up right above my shoulders. Being that I had long hair, this was very frustrating.

One day, when I was browsing in my local beauty supply I discovered Cantu. This product is what changed my natural hair life. It didn't damage my hair, I could go a week without wetting my hair again, my hair didn't shrivel up, and it smells good. But all good things must come to an end. The product was just too heavy for my hair.

After going through a hair metamorphosis (I cut off all the damaged hair leaving my hair at my shoulders then dyed blonde and pink), I was on the look out for a better product. One that was light, would elongate my curls, minimize breakage and damaged caused by dryness, keep my hair healthy and easy to manage, and that would lock in the moisture. A look out that was slowly turning into a stake out.

It wasn't until I was at work (at walmart) and saw someone stocking new hair products in the Ethnic Hair section. Yes, we have an ethnic hair section. It was called Curly Kids. Now, I was skeptical at first, but after reading what all it had to offer I thought why not give it a try? Then, looking at how affordable it was there was nothing stopping me.

The product did all those things that I was looking for. Now, that's all I will put in my hair. I have the shampoo which doesn't strip your hair but keeps it moisturized and adds to the nutrients, the conditioner, the leave in conditioner that I apply to sections of my hair so it reaches every strand,  and the gel which doesn't harden the hair or leave a white residue but still holds it in place. I've never been happier with a product. So, if you've struggled in the trenches with your "mixed hair" as I have, give this product a try.

Remember in your Fashion and Beauty endeavors to Be bold. Be daring. Be lush. But most of all, Be You!

    Natural Hair Dahling! 💕

Many African-American women with natural hair view their locks as both a blessing and a curse. But ever since I stopped chemically straightening my hair 5 years ago, I have grown to love my curls just as they are.

Of course, there have been plenty of days where I've broken combs while detangling hair knots or grown frustrated with the results of a twist-out that took all day to style. However, I wouldn't trade my natural hair journey for anything.

Whether or not you proudly proclaim to be a member of #TeamNatural, there is a bond shared among women with kinky, curly or coily hair.

    Hair care tips:

1.) Shampoo or conditioner to co wash
    2.) Conditioner and/or oil
3.) Leave In or oil to seal in moisture
4.) Conditioner for slip, Wide tooth comb and/or detangling brush
5.) Gel if applicable, hair bands, scarfs, flowers, anything you want to use for hair accessories.

10 best products for natural hair:

    1.) Oyin Handmade
    2.) Miss Jessie's
    3.) Kinky-Curly

It was used on the inner corner of my eyelid as well as my waterline. For the blue I used my Bella Terra Cosmetics mineral eyeshadow. I purchased it at the mall for $5. For glitter highlights, I used liquid glitter by Beauty Rush. Purchased at Victoria's Secret for $8. It created the perfect firework effect.

Even though my makeup was festive, unfortunately, I was unable to join in the Independence Day festivities. Yes, I had to work. But, I shared the fun of the Fourth with customers and coworkers alike. No matter the destination, there is nothing wrong with showing your fun and creative side. Feel free to be you and stand apart from the crowd. Don't be afraid to go against the grain. Especially if you were born to. Be bold. Be daring. Be lush. But most of all, Be You!
